YouthTheaterWorkshop

Generation Alpha grew up at a time when birth rates are falling and they experienced the Covid-19 pandemic as children. This generation is growing up with a variety of modern media. The theater project will deal with the central questions of changing values and the special forms of communication in the digital world. What strengths does the next generation bring to the table and how can their digital experiences be integrated into an analog space like the theater?

YTW „You are out!“ 2024

“The new teacher looks strict.” “Mothers who smoke are bad mothers.” and ”People with glasses are always really smart.” Prejudice can hurt and offend, but we all have prejudices about others. Maybe we were told something bad about someone or our first impression of someone was strange. What happens when we get to know each other and approach each other openly? Might we find something in common?

YTW "Feet up-be strong" 2023

“We've never tried this before, so it's sure to be good!” The eight participants developed a play during their rehearsal time together that deals with the following question: “Which women have particularly influenced and inspired you?”

The result is a colorful collage of scenes about their own great-grandmother, Pipi Longstocking, their favorite actress, the teacher who sings so well and many more. With music, movement and lots of humor, the eight participants conquer the stage and at the end realize: “Aren't we pretty damn cool ourselves?”

“nachtfrequenz“ was organized throughout the state by the Landesvereinigung Kulturelle Jugendarbeit NRW e.V. (LKJ NRW e.V.) with the support of the state working groups of cultural youth work and youth art schools in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Youth Culture Night encouraged people to watch, listen and take part.

Both young people with theater experience and newcomers were able to take part in the improv evening here at the HELIOS Theater:

Our motto was: Positive Vibes. “YES!”. We say “YES!” to free play, “YES!” to joyful togetherness and “YES!” to failing together. The visitors developed images and invented stories in the here and now. Courageous, dramatic, absurd, humorous. The audience was allowed to join in the excitement.
